Creating a Vibrant Community Together
During the Community Budget Meetings (link to the video) many great ideas were submitted on ways to retire the City’s deficit. The meetings were substantive and brought many fresh ideas about how to deal not just with financials, but with improving City operations and further developing our community. One suggestion that surfaced many times over was creating a volunteer network that helps the City’s financial bottom line, increase civic awareness and ownership, and, most of all, build on our community’s ability to solve problems. The people of Grand Rapids see a need and instead of asking what others can do to solve it – we do it ourselves.
The City of Grand Rapids is creating a medium where citizens can do just that. In line with the City Manager's new 'platform' concept of service provision, the City is taking the necessary steps to develop a comprehensive volunteer program for service opportunities around the City. Details are under review. However, the City wants to engage you in the process now.
We would like to know your area(s) of interest or volunteer ideas. And do not be afraid to think out of the box! This City has an abundance of creativity and innovation – let’s build on that and bring those ideas to the table. Please send an email by clicking HERE. We may contact you about your idea and ask for more information on how we can best support the opportunity. Once the program is solidified a few formalities may need to be addressed and then we can roll up our sleeves and get to work! Visit this page frequently to get the most up to date information on Volunteer GR.
Thank you.
